Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What Is A Fixie?

The oldest and simplest type of bicycle used for ages is the Fixed gear bicycle nowadays referred as a Fixie. Our Mint Fixies come with a standard freewheel making it a fixed gear – single speed bicycle.
A fixie gives you a very direct feel for traction conditions on slippery surfaces. This makes a fixed gear particularly suitable for riding in rainy or icy conditions, dogging traffic, commuting, training, you name it. Just enjoy the ride!

What Is The Difference Between A Fixed Gear And A Single Speed Bicycle?

Fixed gear bicycles literally have a fixed gear, meaning that whenever the bike is in motion, the pedals will go around preventing you from coasting on a fixed-gear bicycle. You might think why would anybody ride it? Well we have five reasons: FUN, FEEL, CONTROL, EFICCIENCY and FITNESS. Mint Fixie isn‘t just a bike, its a bike that will grow on to you… Oh, and have we mentioned that it is COOL !? Mint Cool 😉

Single speed bicycles are ones which allow you to coast, meaning that whenever the bike is in motion, the pedals won‘t go around.

It takes a bit of practice to become comfortable riding a fixed gear bicycle and unlearn the habit to coast. The bicycle does not allow coasting and for the first timer it might be rather frustrating to master it. No worries!! Mint Fixies comes with a flip-flop hub allowing both freewheel and fixed gear. It only takes a split of a second to flip your wheel around to enjoy sinlge-speed or fixed-gear setup on your bike.
